Why us?
At South Physio Clinic we are accredited Scroth therapists from the 'Scroth Best Practice Academy' in London. This means that we are certified to use the Scroth method by the official body in London, having completed postgraduate studies and training at the official London clinic.
What is the Scroth method?
The Scroth method is recognized worldwide as the leading specialized physical therapy program for the conservative treatment of scoliosis either as a stand-alone rehabilitation program or in combination with the Cheneau-Gensingen brace which is considered the gold standard in the treatment of scoliosis deformities. At South Physio Clinic we have external cooperation with the Cheneau-Gensingen splint orthotist so that your service is fast.
Although the Scroth method was originally created to treat idiopathic scoliosis, it can be useful in the treatment of structural and non-structural deformities of the spine (kyphosis, lordosis).
The method was developed by Katharina Scroth who was born in Germany in 1894 and until the age of 16 she herself suffered from scoliosis. After being treated with a steel brace, she found it heavy and she began to develop a more functional approach herself using corrective breathing and the therapeutic use of the mirror. By 1921, Schroth's new treatment method, which included specific postural correction, corrective breathing patterns, and postural awareness, was being performed along with rehabilitation exercises in her own clinic. She and her daughter Christa Lehnert-Schroth opened an institute in Bad Sobernheim in West Germany, which eventually expanded with the capacity to treat 150 inpatients at a time. The institute became the Asklepios Katharina Schroth Klinik in the 1980s.

What to expect?
At South Physio Clinic, we provide a comprehensive physiotherapy program that adheres to the principles of the world-renowned Schroth therapy. At the initial appointment, a full specialist physiotherapy assessment is carried out to determine the most appropriate treatment, according to the flexibility of the spine, age and main concerns of the patient. In the case of pediatric cases, parents are present throughout the treatments.
Why choose the Scroth vs. non-specialized physical therapy?
The Scroth rehabilitation program specializes in spinal curves, and is based on the premise that each scoliosis patient has adopted different postural and flexibility compensatory mechanisms to be functional. The special rehabilitation program helps to:
- restoring/improving the length of asymmetric muscles
- reduction of torsional deformations
- prevention of deforming development
