Why us?
At South Physio Clinic we are accredited acupuncturists by the official body of England Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP), having completed relevant post-graduate studies and practiced acupuncture at a rehabilitation clinic in the UK.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body for pain relief, tissue healing and wellness. The needles we use are sterile, disposable, very thin and flexible (about 7 times thinner than a hypodermic needle).
Acupuncture works by stimulating nerve endings, specifically affecting the central nervous system to release neurotransmitters and hormones that can reduce pain, boost the immune system, and help the body regulate various functions.

What to expect?
Initially the physiotherapist makes a personalized assessment based on your health history to understand your symptom and confirm that you are a suitable candidate as there are conditions in which the use of acupuncture is contraindicated.
The needles are inserted into appropriate points related to the problem you are experiencing. You may feel a warm sensation, tingling or pain when the needles are in place. This feeling is often only momentary. The needles can be left in place for 5 to 30 minutes. There are patients who respond quickly to acupuncture, while others may need more than 1 session for the desired result.
At South Physio Clinic, acupuncture is used as a therapeutic tool to treat the following problems:
- Acute injuries and chronic injuries
- Pain in the neck or back
- Headaches
- Pain in the joints
